Sherwin Chan, MD, PhD

Pediatric Radiologist, Vice Chair of Research, Department of Radiology
Children’s Mercy

Dr. Chan’s research interests center around translating engineering principles and technology into medical practice to improve patient outcomes. After teaching kids to telepathically play Space Invaders using subdural electrodes during his graduate work, he used those skills to develop a signal processing technique to better detect arterial stenoses in liver transplant patients and is now using machine learning algorithms to improve medical interpretation of images. In his role as a cardiac imager at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Dr. Chan has been lucky to partner with Dr. Hoffman to translate medical images into three-dimensional augmented reality models.
