Dr. Bastola is an Associate Professor of Bioinformatics in the School of Interdisciplinary Informatics, College of Information Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He holds a master’s degree in Organinc Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Plant Biology. He earned his doctoral degree from The University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH. He is currently the associate director of Bioinformtics Core facility that supports a number of biomedical researchers. He is a member of the International Society of Computational Biology (ISCB) and Mitochondrial Society (MRS).

Dr. Bastola teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in bioinformatics. His research interest in computational biology include gene regulation with nocoding RNA, mining for interesting patterns form genomic sequences for use in molecular diagnostics, public health, secondary metabolism and biology of mitochondria in disease as well as extreme environment.
